~ Gelato ~

Gelato is an Italian word for "ice cream". Though there are two areas that make gelato different from ordinary ice cream.

  1. Our gelato contains less butterfat (4-8% typically) than most American ice cream (14% average). We use only whole milk instead of heavy cream which is found in most American ice cream. The flavorings come from natural ingredients of wholesome milk and fresh fruits to the best selections.

2. Gelato has less air incorporated into the mix (30% approx.) compared to 50% to 150% in most American ice cream. Which results in a more creamier and more flavorful product.

~ History of Gelato ~

Gelato goes back to frozen desserts served in ancient Rome and Egypt made from the ice and snow from the mountaintops. Bernardo Buontalenti invented modern ice cream in 1565. In the 1920's - 1930's the popularity of gelato increased larger shares of the Italian population. The first mobile gelato cart was developed in northern Italian city of Varese.

By the 1960's, Gelato production in the United States began it's growth while keeping the pure and natural ingredients.
