There are 2 types of softball - fast pitch and slow pitch. The game is called softball, the ball itself is not soft. It is larger than a baseball, usually measuring about 12 inches in circumference while a baseball is only 9 inches in circumference. The original names for softball were Indoor baseball, Mushball, and Kittenball. There are 7 innings, and 9 players. Softball is sometimes an event at the Olympics. It was an event at the 1996, 2000, 2004, and the 2008 Games. The playing field is a diamond shape. Theire is a base in each corner. If the batter has 3 swings at the bat and misses she is out. When there are 3 players out the team changes over. |
