AP English 12

AP English is a year long course in which you would gain 1 high school credit. The class is currently taught by Brandi LaQuatra. To sign up for this course you must first meet the Dual Enrollment qualifications as well as an overall cumulative QPA of 3.2 or a cumulative QPA of a 3.5 in the subject of application by the 3rd quarter as reflected on the transcript. This course is only available to seniors at WHS. WHS will cover the $92.00 cost associated with the course within restrictions listed in the CHS Policies and AP Agreement.

Course Description (as written by Washington School District)

"This course will be a college level survey of various literary forms organized into thematic units. Students in this class will be required to complete summer reading and writing assignments, some of which are to be turned in before school resumes in the fall. Students should be prepared to devote many hours to reading and frequent writing assignments throughout the year. Major selections covered may include The Awakening, Hamlet, A Doll House, Tartuffe, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Flies, The Alchemist, the Importance of Being Earnest, and Twelfth Night. Students will also read numerous poems and short stories. Students will be assigned an intensive analytic writing of between two to five pages approximately every two weeks; in addition, there will be frequent timed writings in class. The Graduation Project or Senior Project is a vital part of earning a High School Diploma in the state of Pennsylvania. Students will complete this project through this course by developing a portfolio of work that includes college and career readiness activities, community service, and a demonstration of the connection between learning experiences and the expectations of future careers and life after high school. Students will also be required to take the national AP English Literature exam given in May to qualify for college credit."

CHS Spanish

CHS Spanish is a year long course in which you would gain 1 high school credit and 3 college credits upon passing. The class is currently taught by Jessica Ott and is affiliated with St. Francis University. To sign up for this course you must first meet the Dual Enrollment qualifications as well as an 80% average in Spanish III or IV and an overall minimum cumulative QPA of 3.2 or minimum cumulative QPA of 3.5 in subject of application by the 3rd quarter as reflected on the transcript. This course is available to seniors and juniors at WHS. WHS will cover the $225.00 cost associated with the course within restrictions listed in the CHS Policies and AP Agreement.

Course Description (as written by Washington School District)

"Foundations for this course are realized through authentic readings, movies and recordings for development of skills involved in communicating in the language. All instruction occurs in Spanish and students are expected to learn in the language. Advanced grammatical structures and cultural appreciation is emphasized. This is a dual enrollment college course and three (3) college credits can be earned by qualifying juniors and seniors."
