History

First African-American QB to play in the Rose Bowl

Charles Fermont West a Washington High School alumni marked history on January 2, 1922 as the first African American quarterback to play in the Rose Bowl. He and the Washington & Jefferson Presidents faced the California Golden Bears. California was so heavily favored that all a sportswriter knew about Washington & Jefferson is they were both dead. The scored ended up being 0-0. W&J went 10-0 in the regular season defeating powerhouse such as Pitt, University of Detroit, and Syracuse.

The Origin of the Name Prexies/Little Presidents

The Wash High Prexies Football team had started around 1915. The Prexies are located 27 miles southwest of Pittsburgh in Washington. The Prexies share the city with Washington & Jefferson College. Hence the name Little Presidents also known as Prexies. The name was chosen because the name of W&J's football team is the Presidents.
