Kent James began playing soccer in Junior High school in 1975. His senior year of high school he played for his Kentucky high school that finished second in the state. In college, Kent played for Duke University, and later Swarthmore College where he was captain his senior year. Later Kent played for a semi-professional team in Philadelphia.
After moving to Pittsburgh, Kent started a team that lasted 15 years. Currently Kent plays on the Shadyside team in Pittsburgh in the over 40 league.
Kent first began coaching as an assistant coach at Swarthmore, and then Springfield High School in Philadelphia. When Kent moved to Washington in 1994, he began helping Wash High soccer as a volunteer, then as an assistant coach, and finally as head coach.
Kent has also refereed for 20 years doing both USSF and college matches.
