Who are We?
Prexies!

The Girls' Tennis Team is a family of diverse girls representing Washington High School. Our players are also in Band, Cheerleading, Track and Field, Softball, and participate in part-time jobs outside of being students. Our players range from 9th to 12th grade in general, advanced, CHS, and AP courses as well as Vo-Tech.

Our players are only expected to try their best, despite any challenges that they may face during the season. Hard work and determination make for exceptional individual work, but cooperation and patience make the teamwork the dream works.

What is Tennis?

a sport that can be played with either 2 players (1-1) or 4 players (2-2) that hit a felt-covered rubber ball with a racket across a 78x27 (for 1-1) or a 78x36 (for 2-2) square feet.
In a game, the person who serves the ball first will announce their score preceding their opponents' ("x - y") for each point. It is scored from love (0) to 15 (1) then 30 (2) and lastly 40 (3) until someone wins the 4th point. If the score is 40-40, it is then called "Deuce". When that point is won by a player, the next point is either "ad in" (for the server) or "ad out" (for the receiver). If the score is the same, with the exception of Deuce, it is called as "x - all". Before serving the next game, the set score is called out similarly to the game score, but by ones. Typically, the games continue until a player reaches 6 games. However, you have to win by 2, so you may have to play to either a 7-5 game or a 6-6 game with a tiebreaker (explained below.) A match consists of up to 3 sets, however the player still has to win by 2. Therefore, if the same person wins 2 sets in a row, the match is over. If one player wins the first set and their opponent wins the second, the third set is played.
When the set score is 6-6, a tiebreaker is used to determine the winner. The server begins the point with one serve on the right side. After that point, the opponent then serves from the left first and then the right, and the points continue to switch servers after every 2 points. After every 6 points, the players are to switch sides, so they will switch and have the same person serving. Tiebreakers play until someone gets 7 points and wins by 2.
