It starts with eight bigger balls and one smaller one called the jack or pallino. Whatever team starts rolls the jack into the prescribed zone. Next the first team rolls the first bocce ball and tries to get it as close to the jack as they can. The next team then goes doing the same thing. Whichever team is closer to the jack, gets the point.
Bocce is a sport played all around the world. You may not of heard of this sport but it has actually been the third most popular sport in the world at a point in time. The first documentation of the sport dates all the way back to 5200 B.C.
If you asked anybody from Wash High last year, "Do you know what Bocce is?", most kids will say no. But this year, it's the talk of the school. Coach Todd created a team with the school and since then, our newly founded team have been going to schools to play against them. Though this is a new team, i've heard our team is pretty good at the sport.
Bocce ball was thought to have started in Egypt. Where there was a tomb painting that showed two boys playing the sport. The sport at the time spread throught Asia and the Middle Eastern which then was leared by the Greks and then eventually passed down to the Romans.
In 1519, bocce became a public game. It was being played all over, including Flanders, Hollland, and Belgium. The sport had became international. It was a sport everbody loved and played.
As of 1896, bocce has become an official sport in the Olympics. Bocce is a versatile and any age and athletic ability sport, which is why the game is just so lovable.
The bocce ball team was formed and put together by Coach Todd. The team practiced then went onto games winning against opposing schools. Even beating the most anticipated match from our cross-town rivals, Trinity High School. The team has had such sucess in the sport that they ended up finishing as number two in the seed. This just shows the sport of bocce has a bright future at Wash High.
Coach
Coach Todd was first the football coach, now he is also the coach of the new sport at Wash High. So far coach has coached a 4-2 season in bocce. Not only does he have a great football team but also a fantastic bocce team.
